History

Franz Liszt was a Hungarian composer of the late 1800’s in Budapest. He was known for writing terribly technically difficult compositions, especially piano pieces. This was partly possible because of his abnormally large hands that gave him the ability to play chords that normal size hands could not make the stretch. This is the reason for the exaggerated size of his hands in the commissioned painting by Brent Learned of him in the club. My father was a Szekely-Magyar (Hungarian) immigrant from Transylvania in 1950. So with a bit of an homage to my heritage, a man who made the difficult sound graceful and a play on doorman asking if you are on the list, The Liszt was created.

Michael, the proprietor of The Liszt, is a nightclub industry veteran. He began his career as a bar-back in May of 1993 at The Crosswinds Club inside of an apartment complex in OKC . After a short while he was given the opportunity to bar tend. He thought it was a great part time weekend job thinking he might be doing for a short while... In April of 2000, Crosswinds moved to what is now Groovys. Soon Michael became the lead bartender and GM where he worked until September of 2017. He tenure for 24 years managing one of the longest running clubs in Oklahoma history is a statement to his commitment to excellence in the field. In February of 2018 he opened The Liszt with an investor group that believed Oklahoma City needed a new, exciting, classy and smoke free night club experience. Michael designed the concept and floor plans with the help of two interior design firms. A world class nightclub was built. The rest, we shall say, is history in the making.
